Most owners of a modern diesel knows, the purpose of a particulate filter and how it performs a "regen" to keep itself clean.
However, there are many reasons why a regen may not take place or may be ineffective. When this occurs and the filter becomes loaded with too much soot, dealers are instructed to replace the complete particulate filter assembly, which usually costs thousands of dollars.
As part of being a Liqui Moly Pro-Line Center, we have access to and are well trained on cleaning these particulate filters.
The actual cleaning process is a two-step process in which a foaming cleaner is applied with a wand through an access hole (either temp sensor hole or oxygen sensor hole) and after a period of time, a "purge" chemical is applied the same way.
Then a manual regen is performed to burn off all the loosened material.
There is also a "Particulate Filter Protectant" that we add after the service is performed. This product should be used often to help maintain the condition of the DPF.
